Student Concerns with Bilingual 2030 Policy
At the beginning of the project Professor Li-Yan Wang invited graduate students to share their thoughts and concerns about bilingual instruction. The discussion aimed to consider both the potential benefits and the possible challenges of teaching bilingually.
POTENTIAL BENEFITS
•Better English skills may lead to stronger academic and career opportunities.
•With time and consistent exposure, studends may gradually adapt and learn effectively in a bilingual environment.
The students also raised several honest and practical concerns.
POSSIBLE CHALLENGES
•Some worried that students may not fully understand lessons taught in English.
•Limited chances to practice English could slow students' progress.
•Insufficient funding may create inequities, especially for rural schools.
•Teachers with many years of experience might find it difficult to adjust to new expectations.
•Certain subjects such as calligraphy, may feel less suited to instruction in English.
