Taiwan is unique. It is is a blend of tradition, creativity, and modern aspirations, along with the challenges of adapting to global demands while preserving cultural identity and promoting creativity, connection, empathy, resilience, and the pursuit of understanding and growth.​

1. Education and Bilingual Policy: Taiwan's Bilingual 2030 policy reflects the government's push for English proficiency, highlighting cultural values around global competitiveness and education, but there is resistance from teachers and concerns about equity and content understanding that reveal challenges in balancing tradition and modernization. 
2. Art and Creativity: Art is deeply valued in Taiwan, and is reflected in the emphasis on creative thinking, local artists, and cultural heritage. Events like the Soka Culture Center exhibition and lessons integrating Taiwanese and international art demonstrate the importance of art in preserving identity and fostering creativity. 
3. Respect for Tradition: Historical sites, such as the Japanese Magistrate's house and museums, emphasize Taiwan's respect for its history and cultural artifacts.  The integration of traditional elements into education, like calligraphy and indigenous exhibits, reflects a strong connection to heritage. 
4. Social Dynamics: Taiwanese culture places importance on maintaining face and competence, which influences attitudes toward learning English. Teachers and students often hesitate to speak English due to fear of making mistakes, highlighting the cultural emphasis on character and self-presentation. 
5. Collaboration and Community: Teamwork and mutual support are highly valued, as seen in the collaborative teaching methods, group debriefs, and the seamless coordination among students and faculty during events. 
6. Artistic Expression: Art lessons often incorporate metaphors, emotions, and personal reflection, showcasing a cultural appreciation for introspection and storytelling. 
7. Hospitality and Relationships: The warm interactions with hosts, families, and colleagues reflect Taiwan's culture of hospitality and building meaningful relationships.

My research journey in Taiwan, during the summer of 2024, provided me with insights into Taiwanese culture through various observations and experiences.
