On a Poet Turned Critic
“Remorseless Critic!” the mauled poets cry
And pray for mercy as he bids them die.
But sooth ‘twere some sad comfort, did they know it,
That their hard fee’s a more remorseless poet.
Writers of verse may wince beneath his blow;
Readers of verse thank God he’s turned to prose!
