One of the most consistently anti-racist white Abolitionists, respected by African-American abolitionists
recognizes Cyrus Burleigh and Oscar Johnson as especially worthy of her regard in her will
There is some debate on her years - 1775-1845 comes up consistently, but I cannot get a match for that on Ancestry - the obituary in National Anti-Slavery Standard, included in William Still's URR book (which has a good piece on her), clarifies that the 1774-1854 dates are correct
William Still on Esther Moore: "Esther Moore was not rich in this world's goods, but was purely benevolent and rich in good works towards her fellow-men, hating every form of oppression and injustice, and an uncompromising witness against prejudice on account of color. Such a friend as was Esther Moore during these many dark years of kidnapping, slave-catching, mob violence, and bitter prejudice which the colored people were wont to encounter, should never be forgotten."
Delany, Martin. Martin A. Delany: A Documentary Reader. Ed. Robert S. Levine, Chapel Hill: UNC Press, 2003
Martin Delany, in 1853, says that “I do not know of any of our professed anti-slavery friends who have taken public positions, who will permit of any of their measures to be questioned by a colored person, except in the fullness of those great and good hearts—W.L. Garrison, Gerrit Smith, and that more than excellent woman, Mrs. Hester Moore, of Philadelphia, whose name you now scarcely ever hear of.” 235
