Founded Leavitt Anti-Slavery Society
Taught a black school, and started a Black literary society
Traveled with Charles C. Burleigh in upstate New York in 1839; they were removed from a canal boat for attempting to eat together. Documents to be added to this project. First reported in Myron Holley's Rochester Freeman.
Cowed by anti-Abolitionist riots in 1842 he became more accommodationist, and was condemned by some former allies.
