TaalSutra is a Bay Area–based dance-theater collective that integrates multiple Classical Indian dance forms, including Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kathak, and Manipuri, with original theatrical storytelling. The group creates contemporary narratives rooted in South Asian tradition, using movement as a primary narrative device rather than as embellishment. Its work reimagines classical frameworks, such as the Dashavatar, to explore modern themes like climate crisis, technology, and human responsibility.
Distinct within the Silicon Valley theater landscape, TaalSutra bridges the gap between dance and drama, crafting fully realized narrative productions that appeal to both South Asian and non–South Asian audiences.
