South Asian Spartans - 1940s
In the 1940s, South Asia changed drastically. The British finally left India and India became independent and Pakistan was born as a new nation. In 1948, Sri Lanka became free from British rule. While the newly independent countries grappled with enormous tasks of self-governance and defining themselves, students from these new proud nations came to San José and enrolled as students at SJSU. They shared their experiences and domestic students learned about far away countries and their cultures.
