Dreams
Dreams are a revelation of the power
Which is within, and of us, witnessing
Of the immortal life that sleep shall bring
Which knows no waking. Crowded in an hour
Lives, wonderful, with germ, bud, leaflet, flower.
And the full fruitage of great actions, spring
And flourish; while on unencumbered wing,
Thoughts span Immensity, - -the scouts who scour
The utmost bounds of being, - - wheel their round
Return, and ere the crowing of the cock
Fold their light vans; the while, in sleep profound,
Man’s waking senses the free spirit lock;
The Infinite unfolds to us in dreams,
And through its trembling gates the half-seen glory gleams.
