- Maryleela Rao forms Track Group for women because many female students were interested in track and field, but it was very rare and uncommon. Over 100 women expressed interest in track. Maryleela, who was called India's greatest woman athlete, began her track career in India under her father's training. She competed in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. The SJSU team was very successful as they won most of the events.
