AΠΡΙΛ ΦΟΥΛ! [April Fool!]
O thou glorious Belladonna,
In thy grand Medusean veil,
How the regnant shrine of Honor
Wreathes its nimbus round thy wall!
Actean-like thy bow shall quiver
Down the gyrant Asteroids,
‘Till thy Fate’s redundant river
Soar in blackness through the voids!
In the whirls of boding laughter,
In the wall of hectic hate,
Life’s remediless Hereafter
Surges blandly corruscate.
Give! oh give! thou ambient Horror
Latent Law’s vindictive fire!
Give, thou resonant to-morrow
Phœbean hearts, and wild desire.
Thou to whom these burning numbers
Fiercely fine, and fondly stern,
Shed excoriating slumbers
Round the brow that throbs to learn.
Know that mystic-eyed Sibylla,
Deep in dim Dodonas cool,
Whispers, softa as o’s cedilla –
“No you don’t you APRIL FOOL!”
