[Untitled]
Along a wood-path as I roved one day,
Out of the thicket a wild Partridge ran
Fierce as a vulture, and her wide spread fan
Rustled with anger as she blocked the way;
I smiled and wondered why this bold display,
And fearless charging on the monster Man;
When a faint “cheep” on either side began
From all her brood of tiny chicks astray.
A score of downy creatures, small and fleet,
Darted below the leaves and cried for aid;
Between them came the huge invader’s feet,
And fear was changed to daring; Love had made
The timid heroic, and revealed how well
The Mother-heart on high in humble bosoms can dwell
Revere the Mother who to give thee life
Hath gone down calmly to the gates of death;
Prevailing love within her conquereth
The ??-king with all his horror rife;
Afar from her be passion hale and strife.
That drown the words the brooding Spirit saith;
Let reverent love be round her as the breath
Of royal incense to the crowned wife.
O Brother, loose thy brow in silent awe
Before that holy mystery, Life’s renewal.
The great world, Sire-and-Mother, one and dual,
Makes manifest there in the sacred law
Of Love Supreme pronouncing “very good”
The triumph of the Woman in blissful Motherhood
Part of Love's Courage
