Evening
The mood of dreams comes over me
AS twilights gathering shades I see,
And the dimmed glories of the day
Melt from my vision, ray by ray.
From the blue ether, softly slip
The silent stars; and, frequent, dip
‘Neath the horizon, as Night’s noon
Steals on, with her uprisen moon.
Sweet spirit-voices round me sing:
The fanning of some spirit-wing
Cools my hot brow:—oh, could my will
Prevail, it should be with me still.
Lo! gemmed and glistening with the dew
How weird and wondrous all we view!
While, touched by light of moon or star,
Dim gleams the laud & cope, near and far.
