Faith
A weary wanderer, sickened of the cold
And heartless world, sat down amid the wild
Untrodden wood, and bitterly reviled;
Till his crushed heart grew insolently bold
Against his God; when suddenly, behold,
Close by his side there came an orphan child,
Lost in the wood; and yet how sweet she smiled
When to his brief 'whose girl art thou?' she told
‘I am His Child,' and pointed skyward. Lo,
What joy electric in his scarred heart springs;
He bless'd the babe, and as they onward go
The thought new life into his bosom brings.
O! to what loving Faith his heart will grow,
Who reads God's providence even in evil things.
