Hymn - Look down in mercy from above
I.
Look down in mercy from above,
O Lord of everlasting love!
Upon our guilty land;
And be not yet exceeding wroth
To see yon groaning Sabbaoth
Lift up the shackled hand.
II.
If over all the reeking plain,
Ten righteous spirits still remain!
Forbear, O Lord, forbear!
And for those humble righteous’ sake,
Let not thy ready thunders break;
Above the thousands there.
III.
A little while wilt thou relent,
That the oppressor may repent;
O yet a little while!
So haply he will turn to Thee;
And when the fetter’d slave is free,
Ask thy approving smile,
IV.
O nobler anthems will he raise,
And songs of more exceeding praise,
To whom is more forgiven;
And over the returning soul.
Which wander’d fathest from the goal,
Is greater joy in Heav’n.
