Hymn - Eternal Spirit; When We Bow
I.
Eternal Spirit; when we bow
Before thine awful throne
We would remember all, whom thou
Hast ransom'd by thy Son.
II.
And most of all, the prey of wrong,
The trodden down and peeled;
Whose bleeding heart hath suffer'd long,
Its anguish unreveal'd.
III.
For him who hath no friendly arm,
His fainting soul to stay;
Shall ev'ry gen'rous heart grow warm
And warmer, day by day.
IV.
And in the love that dieth not,
The bondman shall be blest;
Tho’ groaning o'er his wretched lot,
New hope shall fire his breast.
V.
O teach him that a brother's love,
For him hath made one prayer;
And it shall lift his soul above
The billows of despair.
VI.
No tear which falls for man is vain,
Wherever it may be;
No prayer sinks bootless back again,
When breath'd in faith to Thee.
