Note

His novel, Archy Moore, published in 1836, was one of the first major Abolitionist novels. It enjoyed a renaissance in the 1850s in the wake of the success of Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin. It was the inspiration for a poem by William H. Burleigh named after the title character.

Edited the Boston Atlas in the 1830s, when it was notably anti-slavery
