- Note
- From the German of W.L.I. Kiderlen (a map-maker); fuller description from the Pennsylvania Freeman: "Without having given a literal reading, we have endeavored, and to some extent, we think, succeeded in preserving the spirit of this poem. The original, printed in German, is to be found in "The North Star," (a small volume of original pieces published by the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society,) unaccompanied by any translation, much to the vexation of the merely English reader."
