II.
For what are earth and all the thousand worlds
Suns, systems, stars, whose light is o’er us shed?
What but the bright dust of Jehovah’s tread!
He goeth forth, and broad Immensity whirls
Through all its deep, and on the eddying curls
The vast revolving universe is sped;
Till with one breath, like leaves on whirlwinds shed;
Moons, stars and planets from their track He hurls:
What seem to thee sublime, or vast, or small,
To Him in greatness are they deemed alike;
Each one creation is the type of all,
And ‘tis at God’s omnipotence ye strike,
Whether ye spurn the insect’s tiny hall
Built in the hollow mote, or earth’s stupendous ball.

- Eager to see the entire poem, because what is here shows some real skill in poetically appreciating immanence, and opens a window to George S. Burleigh's life-long concern with the small. This would, of course, lapse into sentimentality - a known problem within immanental philosophies. But here there is more seriousness of purpose.
