Ancient Sonnet
Bless'de ys ye manne ho makith truethe hys gyde,
An euene as withe a lampe doith walcke ther bi,
Kepynge hys herte in blameless veritie;
Myndynge, moche hedeful, yt he tourne asyde
Fro waies ungodlye, an selue-louinge pruyd
An ueyn desyre, whilk er ydolatrie:
Ye sam ys he ye Louerd doith iustifye,
An in hys boosome doith Crist's loue abyde.
He schal noght stomble, thagh hys weye bi sette
In slyppery places;—He ho doith vp-staie
Ye rauyne's wynge, schal kepe hys fete alwaie ;
Ne erthlych kares, ne tryalls schal hym frette,
Bote alle swette concorde wolle hys spyryt swaie,
An loue yt loueth, watsoe' er wolde lette.

Explanatory comment:
"Anybody who can translate the following into the Commonwealth's English, is welcome to the task. All I have to say to the article, is that the printers have obeyed literally in regard to it, the time-honored rule of the craft, "follow copy, if it goes out at the window." So blame not the man of types, nor the man of quill-editorial, if you cannot decipher the unshapely words and spell out the hidden meaning, for it is no concern of ours." - The Roman numeral date of MDXLI equals 1541, so presumably (awaiting the reference) this equals 1841.
