Clamor
Clamor,
WHEREBY “KNOCKED HIGHER THAN A KITTY” IS SHOWN TO BE NONSENSE.
If the dread smiter think he smites,
Or if the smitten think he’s smit,
They know not how the Bully fights,
Nor the great law of “tat for tit.”
Ceiling and floor to me are near,
Unhit and knocked stiff are the same,
The vanquished dogs like wolves appear!
And won by me are shame and blame.
They reckoned ill who dragged me out;
At need I am all legs and wings;
I am the fighter and the fou’t,
And I am him the crower sings!
The strong men pined to crack my gourd
Since 1857,
Till Thou, meek servant of the Lord
Didst make me, Grow, mo ? ? ven.
