Are you coming Mr. K*ll*ch, ha! ha! ha!
We do verily congratulate you, Sir!
From your practice hitherto, Sir, at the bar
(Of the “Maine Law,”) we expect you’ll make a stir
Met a mind-ster, but mighty stir, one day!
Of the toddy-stick, we mean, Mr. K.
Very active we have seen you in a “suit,”
Fair suitor in the Reverend-cat black!
Your pursuit the same color, by repute,
Though you lose muss, we should say
It is but a mitti(n)-mus, Mr. K.
Seeing practice will make perfect skill anon,
May the pleader, who yet briefless, has, in brief,
A tight knotty (naughty) case carried on,
Set himself up, very boldly, for a thief
Who had “stolen Heaven’s livery,” as they say,
For the service of the devil — Mr. K.
We are sure of your successes, pious Dear!
You must carry such persuasion in your tone;
When the villian feels the halter at his ear,
You will make his case so nat’rally your own,
That the jury, moved by precedent, will say
Let his verdict be like yours, too, Mr. K.
Ha, ha, ha! Mr. K*ll*ch! is it thus,
Thou particularly Luciferly star,
Hast thou verily become as one of us,
And the altar-rail forsaken for our Bar?
“Bah!” saucily the echoes seem to say,
And we’re moved to meet thy coming, Mr. K.
