The signature is one of three retained in books donated by his granddaughter to the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts. It was signed in the midst of the Canterbury Academy crisis, May 1833, and ironically was inscribed in John Milton's "Paradise Lost"
He died in Douglas, Massachusetts - a town which his nephew L.R. Burleigh would later illustrate in one of his lithographed bird's-eye-views. - East Douglas, Mass. 1886.
